At UC San Diego, you have a variety of advisors to help you navigate
our system.
Warren College Academic Advisors
Available to advise students on quarter planning, scheduling, graduation requirements,
and connect students with resources inside and outside of Warren College. Warren College
academic advisors also conduct workshops/webinars to provide guidance on a variety of
topics, such as long term planning and remote learning resources. They will help you better
understand what is required of you so you are successful at Warren College and at UC San
Diego.
Department Advisors
Located in each academic department and assist in planning major and minor specific
coursework. A large portion of your graduation requirements are in your major. Your major
advisors will help you understand your major requirements and show you how the courses
you have already taken may satisfy major requirements here at UC San Diego.
Career Advisors
Located in the Career Center off of Library Walk. They assist students with career
exploration, graduate and professional school advising, offer career assessments, job fairs,
and many other resources to get students connected and to prepare them for life after UC
San Diego.
Internship Advisors
Located in the Academic Internship Program (AIP) office. AIP provides students with a
variety of internship opportunities across many different career fields. Internships through
AIP are taken for academic credit usually in your 3rd or 4th year.
International Advisors
Available to help international students become familiar with UC San Diego and can
answer any questions about your visa or immigration status.

The Virtual Advising Center (VAC) | vac.ucsd.edu

We will be offering in-person drop-ins when Fall quarter begins. Our In Person Drop-In remote
sign-in is located at the front lobby computer in CSE (EBU3B).

We will be offering virtual ‘drop-in’ one-on-one advising sessions. Please see the schedule for
drop-in advising hours via zoom. You can access our drop-in remote sign-on through the “Meet
with an Advisor” tab in the VAC.

Completion of the lower-division general education/breadth requirements from an
accredited four-year institution or other transfer program - you must see a Warren
academic advisor for verification.

Warren Writing
(WCWP) 100:
Academic Writing
Must be taken at UC San Diego for a letter grade.
If you are transferring without two approved writing courses,
you may be required to take an additional writing course. See
a Warren academic advisor for details.
Ethics and
Society - A two-
course sequence:
PHIL or POLI 27
and PHIL or POLI
28
Completion of WCWP 10A and 10B is required to enroll in
PHIL 27 or POLI 27 and PHIL 28 or POLI 28.
If you are unable to enroll please contact Warren Advising
through the "Ask a question" tab in the VAC.
Both courses must be taken at UC San Diego for a letter
grade.
Formal Skills
Two courses in symbolic logic, computer programming,
and/or statistics from the approved list of courses.
These courses may overlap with other applicable lower-
division requirements and may be taken on a Pass/No Pass
basis unless required on a graded basis for the major or other
requirements.
AP/IB credit may apply, as well as completed, transferrable
community college coursework.
Programs of
Concentration
(PofCs)/Area
Studies
All majors except B.S. Engineering majors must complete two
Programs of Concentrations (PofCs); B.S. Engineering majors
must complete two Area Studies.
PofCs/Area Studies must be non-contiguous (unrelated) to
each other and to the major.
AP/IB credit may apply, as well as completed, transferrable
community college coursework. AP/IB and community college
coursework may only satisfy lower division requirements.
A minor may be used in lieu of a PofC/Area Study if the minor
meets the College's rule on non-contiguity and non-overlap.

All UC San Diego students must complete the following University of California
requirements:
UC Entry Level Writing Requirement
(ELWR)
The University of California requires all
undergraduate students to demonstrate a
minimum proficiency in English
composition.
You must complete ELWR prior to attending
UC San Diego.

UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS

American History and Institutions (AHI)
All UC students must satisfy knowledge of American history and the principles of American
institutions under the federal and state constitutions.
A grade of C or better in an approved high school course in American history and/or
American government
A score of 3 or higher on the Advanced Placement (AP) U.S. History exam
A passing mark in an approved UC San Diego course or approved transfer course
This requirement is met by:
If you are on an F-1 or J-1 student visa at the time of graduation, you will be able to waive the
AHI requirement

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
A knowledge of diversity, equity, and
inclusion is required of all UC San Diego
undergraduate students.
This requirement is satisfied with a grade
of at least C- or Pass (P) in one course on
the UC San Diego-approved DEI list.
A DEI course may overlap with any upper division or lower
division major, minor, or general education course.
